Have you ever found a feather? At The Jewel Hut, we love feathers; we love feathers on necklaces, on bracelets and curled into rings, so we decided to give you a little insight into the world of feathers. We all know that birds have feathers, but perhaps there’s more to these delicate symbols than meets the eye? As we explore the world surrounding feathers, we must first state the facts as to why birds grow feathers? To name but a few, feathers help birds to fly, to protect them from the wind, water and the sun, control body temperature, aid swimming, diving and floating, and heighten their sense of feeling and hearing. In nature, birds depend on feathers for everything making them just as important as arms and legs to us human beings, therefore, when you find a feather on the ground; it’s wise to know that it is indeed a special gift. Over the years, feathers have long had a strong association with the spiritual realms. Many people believe that when we see feathers in our everyday lives, we are receiving personal messages from celestial beings or angels to show us that we are not alone and that someone loving is watching over us. Native American Indian Chiefs used to wear feathers to symbolise their connection with spirits and express their celestial wisdom. Celtic Druids would wear feathered robes during rituals and celebrations to invoke the gods of the sky in a bid to gain knowledge of other worlds. In Christianity, there is also a symbol depicting three feathers said to represent the three virtues, charity, hope and faith. Angel’s wings are said to be made of beautiful, pure white feathers and when we ask for guidance and advice, these feathers will appear to us in even the most unlikely places.
