In 1989 a Welshman named William Roberts stumbled across an old abandoned mine in the mountains of Snowdonia where he was later to discover Welsh Gold. Originally used as a tourist attraction, the mine was eventually turned into a full working mine after a new discovery of Welsh Gold deep into the depths of the mine. This led to the birth of Clogau in 1994 and the beginnings of their stunning jewellery collection. The Clogau mine is situated in North Wales, near Barmouth in Gwynedd, the Clogau St David’s Gold mine used to be one of the largest and richest in the area. For over 150 years this mine has been producing fortunes with the majority of it being Welsh Gold.
