With the Oscars just around the corner, here at the Jewel Hut we thought it would be the perfect time to take a look at the emerging jewellery trends on the red carpet this awards season.
Back in January, the Golden Globes set the tone with statement earrings and no shortage of sparkle. Actress Natalie Portman stole the show, not only for winning 'Best Actress' for her stunning performance in 'Black Swan' but with a silk satin dress featuring a hand-embroidered Swarovski crystal red rose (pictured).
Swarovski was also popular with stars who chose to complement their outfits with crystal-adorned accessories, including Tina Fey, Jane Lynch and Jennifer Lopez, who opted for a stunning Swarovski clutch bag. Other noticeable trends included layered wristwear, lots of diamond and platinum, and gumball-sized cocktail rings.
Cocktail rings were also a hit at the BAFTAs on Sunday 13 February, where British stars Thandie Newton and Sarah Harding rivalled the US stars with gorgeous emerald and ruby rings, respectively. Diamond earrings also proved popular with attendees including Emma Watson and Julianne Moore, who coupled her drop earrings with a diamond bracelet.
On the same night stateside, pop's biggest stars celebrated America's biggest night in music in their finest jewellery. Male guests, including Adam Lambert, Lenny Kravitz and Seal, went for the Russell Brand look with layered, loping necklaces. Meanwhile, bold bracelets were the top choice for 'Glee' diva Lea Michele and popstrel Miley Cyrus; statement earrings were also a theme.
Only a couple of days later back in the UK, and it was the Brits' turn to impress at, well, the BRITs. Big earrings were again a popular choice with guests including Adele, who stole the show with her live performance, and Cheryl Cole, who turned up in a backless dress but made an equally dramatic statement with gothic earrings.
Also in the spotlight at last week's BRIT awards: Cee-Lo Green with a very 'bling' necklace, Ellie Goulding with an elegant gold pendant, and Fearne Cotton with a fistful of silver rings.
Look out for a review of Oscars jewellery looks next week, following the ceremony this Sunday (27 February).
