For more than 17 years, Clogau Gold has been creating unique handcrafted jewellery. The company holds deep ties to Welsh history and utilises rare Welsh gold taken from the Clogau St. David’s mine in Snowdonia.
Gold was first discovered in the mine in 1854 during the extraction of copper. The more precious material was found accidentally within a piece of waste rock extracted from the mine. From this point on, the mine was no longer used to extract copper.
The high cost of mining and the diminishing quantities of gold caused the eventual closure of the mine in 1998. As a result of this, the Welsh gold supply will eventually run out making it the rarest gold in the world.
Gold from this mine has traditionally been used in the wedding jewellery of the British Royal Family. The Queen Mother began the tradition in 1923. Subsequently The Queen, Princess Margaret, Princess Diana, Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall all had wedding rings made from the same nugget of pure Welsh gold.
The distinctive style of Clogau Gold jewellery has the ability to touch its wearer, both physically and emotionally, acting as beautiful reminders of some of the most precious moments in people’s lives. With no fresh supplies of Welsh gold available and its unbridled popularity Clogau Gold is sure to become a rare find.
